pronounciation of the letter /f/ and /v/

/f/ is usually (but not always) spelled "f". It is sometimes spelled "ff" (as in "stuff"), "ph" (as in "phone") or "gh" (as in "tough").

 ⇒ /v/ is usually spelled "v" (as in "interview"; "inventor").

 ⇒ The consonant sounds /f/ and /v/ can occur together in the same word as in: 

five; fever; favourite; favour; flavour; forgive; forever.

 

EXCEPTION: 

The letter "f" in the preposition "of" is pronounced /v/.

COMPARE: The double letter "ff" in the word "off" is pronounced /f/.
